1949 – 2011

Barbara Chromik, 61, of Chicago, Ill., died following a brief illness at her residence on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011.

Born in Sindelfingen, Germany on Sept. 17, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Tadeusz and Krystyna (Michalec) Chromik. As a child, Barbara came from Germany to the U.S. with her family. They moved to Kenosha. She attended St. James Elementary School and graduated from St. Joseph High School. In 1969, Barbara moved to Chicago.

For over 40 years, she was employed as a travel agent with BCD Travel, Chicago, Ill., retiring in 2010. Prior to her employment with BCD Travel, Barbara was employed with TWA Airlines.

Barbara loved being a worldwide traveler. She lived a life full of accomplishments, friendships and passions. Nothing meant more to her than her family. On holidays and weekends Barbara would travel to Kenosha to spend time with them. Although Barbara lived in Chicago, she was a proud Green Bay Packer fan. She never hesitated to show her love for the "Green and Gold".

Left to remember Barbara's love are her five siblings, Irene (Jan) Kubicki of Kenosha, Edward Chromik and Helen (Phil) Dwinell, both of San Diego, Calif., and Diana Chromik and Jeannie (Kevin) Seefeldt, both of Kenosha. She is further survived by her lifelong friend, Dominic Calarco of Elmwood Park, Ill.; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, grand nieces, grand nephews and extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, George Chromik.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 4804 7th Avenue. Interment will follow in St. Casimir Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
