Lawrence William Fliess
January 7, 1948 - July 10, 2024
On July 10th, 2024, Lawrence W. Fliess passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a second courageous battle with cancer within the last 12 years. Born January 7th, 1948, to the late Joseph R. and Jean Fliess he was educated in the schools of Racine and Kenosha, graduating from St. Joseph High School (Kenosha) in 1966.
Along with his friend and future brother-in-law, Richard, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in March of 1967 and was trained in avionics. He was stationed in Chu Lai, Vietnam from October 1968 - October 1969 where he was an electrician on F4 Phantom Jets. Discharged honorably in March of 1971, Larry returned to his meat cutting employment at Kenosha Packing. By fall of 1974 he had started work at American Motors (Chrysler) and retired in 2005. Larry was active with American Legion and VFW Posts throughout Kenosha County attending events, delivering Christmas presents, and selling poppies as recently as Memorial Day 2024.
Survived by his brothers and sisters: Patricia (Richard) Kaminski, Joseph (Sandy) Fliess, Timothy Fliess, Irene (Michael) Rossi, Terrence Fliess, Richard (Susan) Fliess, Lorraine Fliess and Ronald Fliess (Cathy Koessl), Uncle Larry was also beloved to his many nephews and nieces (including the youngest great nephews and nieces that always brought him great joy during visits).
He enjoyed crossword / Sudoku puzzles, the study of U.S. history, traveling cross country with his brothers (Tim and Terry), and the occasional trip to try his luck at a casino.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his older sister Catherine, and nephew Peter Kaminski. His general stubbornness and corresponding dry sense of humor will be greatly missed and cherished by all who knew him best. The family would like to extend their gratitude to their sister Lorraine for tending to his daily needs with great love and compassion prior to his passing and to Reverend Father Mc Dermott for his spiritual and religious care.
Visitation will be held at St. Sebastian Church, 3126 95th Street, Sturtevant on Monday, July 15, 2024, from 12 noon -1 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1 pm. Burial with full military honors will follow at 3 pm Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
