Daniel Patrick - Class Of 1965

Daniel Patrick

Marine PFC Daniel G. Patrick, 19, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert V. Patrick, Salem, was killed in action in Vietnam according to word received from the Defense Department.  He died as the result of gunshot wounds in the chest from hostile forces in an operation in Thus Thien, Vietnam. Private Patrick became the sixth Kenosha County resident to be killed in action in Vietnam and the third this year.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in February of 1966 and had been overseas since October of 1966. 

Daniel was born in Waukegan on July 30, 1946.  He graduated from Holy Name Grade School and from St. Joseph High School in 1965.  He attended the University of Wisconsin-Kenosha Center prior to enlisting.  He was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church in Wilmot and a member its Holy Name Society.

Private Patrick's first assignment was aboard the USS Vancouver as a tactical logistics operator during the first major invasion of the Mekong Delta.  He had been in Vietnam with ground forces since January of this year (1967).  He was a radio operator for headquarters and support communications attached to the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, which was engaged in search and destroy operations. 

Surviving, besides his parents, are one sister, Colleen, 13, at home; his grandfather, Byron G. Patrick of Salem; an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Ray B. Patrick of Kenosha, and maternal survivors in Cork, Ireland including aunts and uncles, Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Murphy and Mr. and Mrs. William Canty. 

Daniel was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel F. Canty of Cork, Ireland and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mildred K. Patrick of Salem, WI.
