Linda (Lyn) Louise Gehring died peacefully at home December 13, 2022 at the age of 76. She was preceded in death by her parents Lucile (Martin) and George Gehring and brothers Charles (Bud)Gehring and George Gehring. She is survived by her wife Mary Moat, nieces and nephews Dr. Charles Gehring (Kathleen), Mary (Dr. Robert) Hayes, Kathy Gallion, Michael Gehring (Andrea), and Scott Gehring, and many beloved great and great-great nieces and nephews and friends.
Lyn was born in Kenosha and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School and then Barat College, Lake Forest, Illinois. After teaching religion at St. Joseph’s High School, she joined the religious of the Sacred Heart for several years prior to returning to Kenosha and working in Human Resources at Kenosha Memorial Hospital. It was there that an interest in health care was kindled, and she attended a pioneering program at PACE University, New York, graduating as a registered nurse with a master’s degree which led to certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Lyn returned to Wisconsin to work at Mount Sinai Hospital in Milwaukee as an NP in primary care.
Throughout her career Lyn held many positions – head nurse in the outpatient department at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hospital Director of Outpatient Clinics at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and after receiving her Ph.D. at UWM, she taught nursing at Columbia, Mount Mary and Alverno. Lyn was also a member of the Navy Nurse Corps reserves for 18 years.
Prior to retirement in 2012 she was Coordinator of the Take Care Clinic at Oklahoma and 60th, finally finishing her career as a nurse practitioner for United Healthcare, visiting seniors in their homes to assist in keeping them fit to stay at home.
Lyn fought battles with breast cancer and then colon cancer all while continuing the gardening, traveling and outdoor activities she enjoyed.

Services will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Franklin on Saturday, January 7th, 2023 at 11:00 AM with a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Horizon Home Hospice or St. James Catholic Church, Franklin.
