Ann Ellen Flatley

Ann Ellen Flatley died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, near her home in Ormond Beach, Fla. following a long battle with cancer. She was 72 years old. She is survived by her former husband Timothy Ernst, her three sons, Joseph, Fleming Island, Fla.,, Andrew, Asheville, N.C. and Christopher, Asheville, N.C .along with her grandchildren Grace, Nathan, Logan and Preston.

Ann was born at St. Catherines Hospital in Kenosha, Wis. as the daughter of Dr. L. James Flatley and Phyllis C. Flatley. She was the oldest of seven children including James, Winter Springs, Fla., Rosemary Habermann, Waukesha, Wis., Terrence, Renton, Wash., Michael, Winter Springs, Fla., Jeanne Bohman, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Robert, New York, N.Y.

Although she lived half her life in Fla., Ann considered herself always a "Kenosha girl" where she was a student at St. Mark Elementary and St. Joseph High School. She then attended Marquette University where she studied speech and language pathology. Of all the places she had been in her life, her favorite was the family cottage in Spread Eagle, Wis. It was there that she spent many summers on the lake and winters on the snowy slopes of nearby Iron Mountain, Mich.

Throughout her life, Anns spirit was always interwoven with her deep love for and identification with music in all forms. This was demonstrated by her enchanting proficiency in piano, guitar and voice. She had the unique ability to reproduce any tune in her own special way that was invigorating for her and those around her. Anns family continued to witness her special gifts that later carried forward into energizing her own home and children with her passion and talents of voice and piano.

While primarily serving as a devoted homemaker, Ann also served as a dedicated health care provider, as a paramedic in Ocala, Fla. and, during her later years she provided compassionate service in home healthcare. Family and friends will remember a witty, animated woman overflowing with vigor and spirit. Ann was admired for her strength and determination during her challenges throughout life and will be dearly missed by all who are blessed to have known her.
