James “Jim” “Bullit” Barrett, 75, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, after a 14-year battle with cancer, Saturday, July 25, 2020, at his residence.

He was born on June 16, 1945, to the late James W. and Florence A. (Hansen) Barrett in Kenosha.  He was educated in the schools of Kenosha and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School.  He attended Albuquerque University, Gateway, and received his police science and a business degree from UW Whitewater.

Jim entered the US Army in 1966 and was honorable discharged in 1967.  He served in Vietnam.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW.

In 1976 he married Susan Bose in Kenosha.

Jim worked as a booking/bonds clerk for the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department for many years.  He also worked for the Silver Lake Police Department, Allendale Group Home, and Lamb’s Farm.  Jim loved working with people.

Jim was a member of Youth for Understanding taking in 27 students from all over the world.

Jim was an avid bowler whom many known his as the silver bullit, camping at his trailer at Yogi Bear Campground, loved wrestling and the Indianapolis Colts.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Sue, his son Mark (Holly Gitzlaff) Barrett of Kenosha, his much-loved grandson Lucas Barrett and his brother John F. (Susan) Barrett of Mount Pleasant.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Michael.

Funeral Services for Jim will be held on Friday, July 31st at 1:00 p.m. at the Bruch-Hansen Funeral Home.  Interment will follow with Full Military Honors at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Due to public concerns and guidelines for the CDC, we are limited to 50 people in the funeral home, which means you may have to wait outside for a short period of time before entering.  For your safety, the family is requiring everyone to wear masks and to obtain social distancing.  We thank you for your cooperation and understanding during these trying times.  Memorials would be appreciated to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.
