Robert J. "Bob" Kolmos

1943 - 2015

Robert J. "Bob" Kolmos passed away on Feb. 7, 2015, in Pomona, Calif., after a hard fought battle with lung cancer.

Bob was born in Waukesha, Wis., on April 21, 1943, the son of Jesse and Josephine Kolmos. He attended St. Mark Grade School and graduated from St. Joseph High School. Bob received an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps in 1964. He moved to Southern California in 1968 where he's been a long-time resident of Chino.

On Aug. 22, 1981, he married Sharon Dupree in Lake Tahoe, Nev.

Before Bob retired in 2008, he was the General Sales Manager for 21 years at Richard Hibbard Chevrolet, one of the largest volume Corvette dealerships in the country at the time. Prior to that, Bob worked at the Los Angeles Dealer Auto Auction for 23 years where he worked his way up to General Manager.

Bob had a strong interest in cars and was very active in various hot rod events in Southern California. He and his high boy Deuce phaeton (a hot rod built by Boyd Coddington in the mid 80's) were featured in numerous worldwide hot rod publications including appearing on the cover of Street Rodder magazine. In more recent years, Bob helped organize the 80th anniversary of the 1932 Ford display at the Grand National Roadster Show.

In addition to cars, Bob loved baseball, and like his father, Jesse continued to be a long-suffering but avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Kris (Jim) Burdett and Dyan (Rick Zolozabal) Dupree; two granddaughters, Jessi and Cori Burdett; and a sister, Denise (Kevin) Cassin, all of Southern California. Bob is also survived by many cousins and good friends in both Wisconsin and California who will miss him greatly. 

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jesse and Josephine Kolmos.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Todd Memorial Chapel at 325 N. Indian Hill Blvd., Claremont, CA 91711. Visitation will take place on February 17th from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with services following on Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. A private burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Lung Association
