Edward Kertz Obituary

Edward G. Kertz Jr. passed away on May 4, 2024, at the Avow Hospice Center in Naples, Florida. He was born on October 1, 1943, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the beloved son of the late Edward G. Kertz Sr. and the late Lorna (Makarewicz) Kertz.

Edward, affectionately known as Ed, led a life defined by dedication, passion, and love.

He was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School, where his talent on the varsity baseball team shone brightly. Furthering his education, he earned an associate degree from the Kenosha Technical Institute, laying the foundation for a successful career ahead.

Ed's commitment to service led him to the National Guard, where he served with honor before embarking on a fulfilling career journey. He excelled as a sales manager for Brown Shoe Company and later ascended to the position of Vice President, overseeing Retail Development for Candies shoes.

In the pursuit of new horizons, Ed relocated to Florida from New York in the early 90s. There, he embraced entrepreneurship, serving as President and Operations Manager for Paradise Transportation while also making notable contributions to the commercial real estate landscape in the Naples area.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Ed enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. An avid angler, he found serenity in fishing, whether casting his line on a tranquil river, peaceful lake, or the vast expanse of the ocean. His cherished moments were those spent fishing alongside his granddaughter Jade and teaching other family members how to fish.

Ed also enjoyed watching sunsets at Loudermilk Park, and walking his faithful dog, Bambi. His unwavering optimism and resilience were hallmarks of his character, inspiring all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Ed is preceded in death by his brother Dennis Kertz and daughter Julie Dodds. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Griffin) Kertz, and his granddaughter, Jade Wheeler, his daughter Christine Atzert and husband John Atzert, grandson Forrest Rohde, brother Kenneth Kertz and wife Lois, as well as their daughters, Jamie Kertz and Jessica Smith, his grandchildren Jessica and Jadie Dodds, and Emily Hafner, from his late daughter Julie, as well as his first great-grandchild, Jocelyn Gillespie, daughter of Jessica Dodds. Additionally, he is survived by his stepchildren, Lisa Merkin, Diane Giasulla, Brian Wheeler, and Shannon Haggerty, and step-grandchildren Will and Sophie Giasulla.

A celebration of Ed's life for close friends and family members will be held at a future date, honoring the legacy of a remarkable man who touched countless lives with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
