MaryLynn "Nonna" Charlotte Broughman

Jan 23, 1943 – Jun 13, 2024

Racine – MaryLynn Charlotte Broughman “Nonna”, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

MaryLynn was born in Kenosha on January 23, 1943, the only child of the late Chester and Marie (nee: Del Frate) Kulesh. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School. On August 7, 1965 in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, she was united in marriage with James Broughman.

MaryLynn and  Jim owned & operated Gateway Tool & Die and MGM Tool & Die. MaryLynn &  Jim worked together, cooked together, traveled together….literally did everything together. You  rarely saw one without the other. A part of Nonna was missing when  Jim passed away on January 16, 2000. A few years later, Nonna moved from Kenosha to Racine to be closer to family.

While in Kenosha, Nonna was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she taught religious education and joined the Christian Family Movement. In Racine, she was a dedicated member of St. Mary by the Lake Catholic Church where she served as a trustee. Years ago, MaryLynn was involved in the Jaycettes and proudly served as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout Leader. In more recent years, Nonna enjoyed spending every available moment with her kids, grandchildren, many dear friends  and always looked forward to a good Lenten fish fry.  Praying the rosary was a part of her daily life.

Surviving are her children, Gregory (Nicole) Broughman, Melissa (Tom) Dreifuerst and Mary (Anthony) Rosa; grandchildren, James, Daniel & Magdelyn Dreifuerst; step grandchildren Bri, Coty, and Levi, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Nonna was preceded in death by Jim’s parents, William Wiley & Mary Broughman; and sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Corrine (Elmer) Thrasher, Casey (Angie) Broughman, Maggie (Bill) Ferguson and Annie (Ken) Krause.

Visitation will be in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 20, 2024 in St. Mary by the Lake Catholic Church (7605 Lakeshore Drive Racine, WI 53402) at 11:00 am (visitation beginning at 10 am) with Rev. Patrick O’Loughlin officiating. A luncheon will follow.  Interment will take place next to her beloved husband, Jim, at St. James Cemetery (7002 7th Avenue in Kenosha) on Friday, June 21st at 11:00 am.

Memorials to St. Mary by the Lake Catholic Church, Covenant House, The Prairie School or Racine Montessori School have been suggested.

A heartfelt note of thanks to Nonna’s amazing caregivers, Mary Drain and Valentina Avila, and to Allay Hospice for the compassionate care, love, and support given in our Mom’s time of need. Because of them, Nonna was blessed to pass away peacefully in her home with her cat, Sugar, by her side. We will be forever grateful.  May God bless all of you!
