Karen Tunkieicz (Kammerzelt) - Class Of 1975

Karen Kammerzelt

Karen Kammerzelt, 59, a resident of Bristol, died Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at The Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie.

She was born, the second of twins, in Kenosha on Feb. 19, 1957. The daughter of Helen (Fliess) Tunkieicz and the late Stanley Tunkieicz, she attended St. George Elementary, graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1975 and received her Associate Degree at Gateway Technical College.

On July 3, 1982, Karen married Dennis Kammerzelt at St. George Church in Kenosha. They were blessed with a daughter Kari Lynn in 1984. Karen was able to see her daughter graduate from Westosha Central High School and Calvin College. She also enjoyed seeing their daughter get married and the birth of her two grandsons.

Karen was an accomplished district manager through Christmas Around the World and was an Avon representative. In her earlier years she also worked at American Hospital Supply. Although her battle of 31 years with Multiple Sclerosis took a toll on her body she always remained strong and positive. In later years Karen was taken care of by her special friend and caregiver Rayisa Kozak along with her husband and daughter.

Karen was a member of North Point Christian Church, Winthrop Harbor, Ill., and was the ultimate prayer warrior. She also lead the MS Support group of Kenosha for many years.

Throughout the years Karen was extremely creative at everything she did. She enjoyed crocheting, tatting, knitting, sewing and created many beautiful keepsakes. She also had a love for technology and was talented in computer programming. Whatever she set her mind on she accomplished it to excellence.

Karen is survived by her spouse, Dennis; daughter Kari (Chad) Willms; two grandsons, Bryan and Gavin. Karen is further survived by her mother, Helen Tunkieicz; her twin sister, Kathy (Charlie) Gehring; her sister, Debbie Bindelli; and her two brothers, Gary and Rick Tunkieicz. She will be missed by her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nephews and nieces and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Stanley Tunkieicz; brother, Joseph in infancy; father and mother-in-law, Jacob and Joyce Kammerzelt.

We want to thank the staff at St. Catherines Hospital and Hospice Alliance in Kenosha for their wonderful care throughout this difficult time.

A celebration of her life is scheduled for Saturday, May 28, 2016, at North Point Christian Church (900 Lewis Avenue, Winthrop Harbor, IL) Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to Noon with a service following at the Church. A Christian burial will be at South Bristol Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations in Karens memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Hospice Alliance in Kenosha, WI would be appreciated.

Suelynn Seianas (Hanegraaf) (1975)

Dear Kathy and family - I am so sorry to read (just today) about Karen's passing.  Every birthday, I think of you and Karen on February 19 while also wishing my own twin brother, Stan, a "happy birthday" (how remarkable that the two sets of twins in our Class of 1975 shared the same birthday). Karen was such a sweet person.  I am sending you a hug and praying that each passing year will be a little gentler for you.  Take care, Sue (Seianas) Hanegraaf
