April 1, 1951 - September 28, 2025

Virginia A. Thompson, 74, of Kenosha, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Aurora Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. A devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend, Virginia will be deeply missed.

Born April 1, 1951, she was the daughter of Nini “Duke” and Theresa (Wojciechowska) Gigliotti, the oldest of their 5 children. She graduated from St. Joseph High School and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

On Sept. 4, 1971, she married Dean P. Thompson, the love of her life, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Together they had three children, of whom she was endlessly proud.

Virginia had a passion for education, service, and helping others. The impact she made on hundreds of students throughout her decades-long teaching career is immeasurable. The gift of her time was also cherished by t-ball teams she coached, scouting troops she led, school committees she participated in, and countless other activities in service to children and the community. Precious lifelong friendships were forged through these activities.

Her family was her pride and joy, as evidenced by thousands of photos, newspaper clippings, and memorabilia meticulously saved and organized. She could always be found either behind-the-scenes or in the front row of a game or performance, the loudest member of the crowd. She loved traveling with her family, often to Disney or national parks. In retirement, she and Dean traveled to see her grandchildren as often as she could.

She is survived by her husband, Dean; her three children, Matthew (Tracey) Thompson, Laura (Matt) Allord, and Kristin (James) Barr; six grandchildren, Julianne and Sarah Thompson, Derek and Ryan Allord, and Connor and Brandan Barr; and four siblings, Debra Maki, Nino (Sue) Gigliotti, Mark (Rebecca) Gigliotti, and Michelle Mendez.

Private interment will be held in St. George Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in memory of Virginia be made to the Kenosha Achievement Center, 1218 79th St, Kenosha, WI 53143, https://www.thekac.com/donate/  or the Education Foundation of Kenosha, https://educationfoundationkenosha.org/donate  for teacher grants.
