Michael Galley

Michael John Galley passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 13, 2019, with his loving family at his side, after a courageous two year battle from pancreatic cancer.

Michael was born in Kenosha on February 23, 1951 to Daniel L. and Regina “Jean” M. (Rosing) Galley. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and St. Joseph High School, graduating in 1969. In his youth, he enjoyed many summers at his parents cabin on Big Horn Lake in Townsend, WI.

Upon graduating, Michael joined the Wisconsin Army National Guard and was assigned to Btry C 1st Battalion, 126th Field Artillery located in Racine.  He served his basic and months training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC.  He served his country for six years and was honorably discharged in 1975 with the rank of Specialist E5.

On October 14, 1972, Michael was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Regina “Gina” M. Fliess at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Paris, WI. They were blessed with over 46 loving years of marriage.  Three sons and eight grandchildren survive him.

Michael was employed for over 28 years with Nickels Ace Hardware in the Town & Country Shopping Center and for 10 years for Ace Hardware Corporation of Oakbrook, IL as a corporate store manager in Kenosha. He was further employed at Promotions Unlimited, Sturtevant, WI and Home Owners Bargain Outlet, Waukegan, IL.

Upon retirement, Michael enjoyed working part-time for the Rec Plex in Pleasant Prairie, WI as a van driver for the before and after school care program. Michael enjoyed spending many summers with his family at their summer getaway in Portage, WI.  They also made many family memories at their favorite vacation spot in Hayward, WI.

Michael was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He had a passion for many things.  He treasured his family, loved to hunt and fish, and was an avid Packer and Brewers fan.  He loved nature and the great outdoors.

He was a former member of the Elks Lodge #750 and a current member of the Moose Lodge #286 and the American Legion. Michael volunteered his time and served many veterans from the hospital in North Chicago.  While being an Elk member, he chaperoned trips to the Milwaukee Brewers games and served many meals for the disabled veterans during the holidays.

Michael is survived by his wife, Regina “Gina”; his children, Bryan M. (Keri), Steven J. (Jenny) and Jeffrey D. (Abby) Galley; and eight grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob, Lukas, Logan, Taylor, Cole, Tanner and Noelle.

He is further survived by his sister, Kathleen Robertson; his sisters-in-law, Jean and Roberta Galley; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James L., Daniel G. and Robert L. Galley and a brother in infancy.
