JoAnn M. Paulsen, 60, of Iron Mountain, Mich., and Bush Lake in Sagola, passed away on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at her home. 

She was born May 5, 1950 in Kenosha, Wis., daughter of the late Edward and Genevieve (Rygiel) Kroll. JoAnn was a 1968 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School in Kenosha. She married Myron “Sam” Paulsen on Aug. 21, 1970, in Kenosha County. They moved to the Crystal Falls area in 1981. For 23 years JoAnn and Sam were the owners of the Crystal Waters Resort on the Fortune Chain of Lakes. She enjoyed gardening, reading, spending time with family and took great pride in managing the resort. JoAnn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and daughter-in-law and will be deeply missed. 

She is survived by her husband, Myron “Sam”; her son, Andrew (Susan) Paulsen of Norway; two grandsons, Stephen and Kaiden; a sister, Marlene Schackmuth of Kenosha; a brother-in-law, David Paulsen of Union Grove, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews. 

JoAnn was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Eugene Schackmuth. 

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. 

Funeral services will follow at 5 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. 

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls in the spring. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dickinson County Cancer Unit Loan Closet.
