In Memory

Thomas Gittens - Class Of 1962

Thomas Gittens

Thomas Earl Gittens passed away peacefully Saturday, June 2, 2018, in the arms of his loving family.

His story reads like lyrics to the best songs ever written. If you met him, you were his friend and you had a friend for life. Depending on the day or the season, you might find yourself sharing a beer with Tom, after a challenging round of 18, shooting a game of pool (anywhere a pool table was to be found), or cutting wood and drinking coffee out of his old Stanley thermos. If you were lucky enough, you may have been sitting around the table for family game night, after over-indulging in Tom’s famous spaghetti sauce. And always, there was music.

Tom was most at home in nature and all it has to offer. His blue eyes saw a lot of the world, yet his favorite sights involved family and friends. He had a way of making big and sweet memories out of even little moments, and for never taking credit for random acts of kindness.

Tom is already missed by his wife, Kimberly Nelson; his children, Jennifer (Mark) Gardella, Emily Gittens, Mollie (Justin) Owen, Matt (Randi) Ambuehl, Bethany (Juan) Vergara, and Alberta Gittens; as well as his grandchildren, Schuyler Thomas, Savannah, Finley, and Remington. He was the beloved oldest brother of Daniel, Edward (Debbie), Stephanie (James) Waldow, Ann Gittens, Barbara (Ray) Bolanos, Charles “Chick”, and Patricia (Dick) Beach.

Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
