D.J. "Jim" Slagoski

1941 - 2016

D.J. "Jim" Slagoski, 74, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at Hospitality Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Kenosha on May 25, 1941, he was the son of the late John and Julia (Winik) Slagoski. A lifelong resident of Kenosha he was educated in St. Mary's School and went on to get his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Marquette University.

On Feb. 16, 1963, he married Jean Roemer at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kenosha. In 1980 they moved to Nashville, Tenn., and returned to Kenosha in 2000.

Jim was employed in civil service at Great Lakes Naval Base and later with HUD, first in Milwaukee and then in Nashville. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was active with the Boy Scouts, Troop 551 in Kenosha and Troop 249 in Nashville, and received their highest award, the Long Rifle Award. Jim also enjoyed woodworking, camping, deer hunting, cooking, gardening and trips to the casino. He also collected antique tools and beer steins.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Slagoski of Kenosha; a son, James (Nicole) Slagoski of Lake in the Hills, Ill.; and his granddaughter, Julia. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, John Slagoski; a daughter, Jennifer Stanton; and a sister, Patricia Balsano.

Jim's family would like to thank Dr. Raymond Knight and Dr. Rade Milosevic for all of the kind and compassionate care they gave him.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 22, at St. Mary Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery.
