I was a good friend of Joe back in our high school days. After St. Joe's, he joined the US Marine Corps while I joined the US Army Security Agency. The last time I saw Joe, he said that when he got out of the service, his goal was to come back to Kenosha, and to join the police force.
I felt so bad when I learned that Joe had died, a Marine Corps Sargeeant, after serving our country so honorably. I had been told that he had served in Marine Recon in the 'Nam, but had died at Camp Lejuene. For almost 50 years, I have never followed up in confirming that info. I feel remiss.
What I don't understand is why there is no flag after Joe's name, in the St. Joseph HS "Classmate Profile". From what I know of his service record, Joe certainly deserves such recognition.
I still remember our days at St. Joseph, and the energy he exuded, back when we were young.
Joe and I were classmates throughout St Mary's Elementary & St Joes HS. We were nieghborhood friends living about 1 block apart. He saved my behind a couple of times and I was proud when he joined the service. I heard he served in Vietnam and was a real warrior. I was sadden to hear he was killed when the army jeep he was driving tipped over. I still think of him. Nice guy....
