Cynthia "Cindy" (Stokman) Galvan

1961 - 2017

Cynthia "Cindy" (Stokman) Galvan, 56, a resident of Milwaukee, died Sunday April 9, 2017, at Froedtert Hospital surrounded by her family.

Cindy was born in West Allis on Feb. 24, 1961, to John and Donna (Courtois) Stokman. She was educated at St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1979. She went on to get a Bachelor's degree in education at U.W. Madison and a Master's degree from Lawrence University.

She made her living as a teacher and she had a passion for mentoring young people. As a special education teacher, she impacted hundreds of children in the Milwaukee Public Schools and at Holy Spirit Catholic School. As a computer science teacher, she shared her love of technology and the latest gadgets with her students.

On July 6, 1996, Cindy married her beloved Antonio Galvan. He preceded her in death in 2003. Cindy and Antonio traveled extensively during their marriage including many trips to Europe. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and lived her faith by being loving and helpful to everyone she met. She had an infectious laugh and according to the friends who loved her best, she would light up the room.

Cindy is survived by her parents, John and Donna, both of Greendale; her brother, Tony (Jenny) Stokman of Menomonee Falls; and her twin sisters, Paula (Andy) Moxon of Mt. Pleasant, and Ann Stokman of Milwaukee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday April 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Milwaukee, Wis. (3222-S. 29th street, Milwaukee WI) Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
