Obituary of Dennis Kohloff

My beloved Dennis was born to wonderful parents, Bill and Irene Kohloff on July 24, 1944 in Kenosha, Wisconsin where he grew up with his sister, Nancy. He attended St. George Elementary School and St. Joseph’s High School. He went on to complete a rigorous 6 year program in Architecture at the University of Detroit. We fell in love after freshmen year of college and two and a half years later married on December 17th, 1966. I taught high school while he finished his degree. Then we packed up a Hertz Rent-a-Truck and towed our Java Green VW Beetle and cat Thor across plains and mountains to Seattle and UW Graduate School. Dennis found a job that took us to Melbourne, Australia in 1970 where he worked on house designs for a new town that was to be built across the bay. After returning to Seattle he did residential design for two companies and then decided to free- lance. One of his clients turned out to be Murray Franklyn – Don Kline and Don Jasper. They eventually became is only client and he became a partner and President of Countrywood Homes. As part of Murray Franklyn, Dennis was able to design hundreds houses and turn them into thousands of homes on the Eastside. We were overjoyed by the birth of our son Jeffrey in 1980; and in 1985 we adopted a 3 year old dynamo from an orphanage in Korea, Mark (Lee, San Min) Kohloff. Like their dad, both boys became scouts and eventually joined John McGaw’s legendary Troop 606. Dennis loved being a troop dad on monthly camping trips that took place in rain, sunshine, snow no matter what. Dennis successfully managed diabetes from the age of 12 and did the best he could with heart disease. He was a great supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project and loved his country.

Rest in peace dear Dennis. Your kindness, love and humor are irreplaceable.
