SUSAN ELIZABETH MAKELA obituary, 1945-2018, Lake Villa, IL

AKE VILLA - Susan Elizabeth Makela, 72 years old, passed away peacefully, Friday October 19, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born November 23, 1945 in Chicago, IL the daughter of the late Michael T. and Anne (Seppa) Krempely. Susan graduated from St. Anastasia Catholic Grade School, Waukegan, IL and St. Joseph Catholic Academy, Kenosha, WI. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Lake Villa, where she was a member of the choir. She was also a former member and choir member of The Church of Holy Apostles Catholic Church, McHenry, IL. Before her retirement, Susan worked for many years as a hairstylist. On September 2, 1967 Susan married David F. Makela in Zion, IL. Susan enjoyed watercolor painting and photography, gardening with wildflowers, baking and spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them about her hobbies. She very much enjoyed helping others through many church activities including Magnificat Prayer group, helping at soup kitchens and establishing marriage encounters and C.H.R.P. She also loved St. Therese of Lisieux for the little things that make people's lives better. The family would like to especially thank Compassionate Ministries, JourneyCare Hospice, Andrea, Florence, Michelle, and Sue for taking such good care of Susan. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, David; two children, Deanne (Jim) Keim and Andrew (Kathleen) Makela; seven grandchildren, Everett, Carson, Elizabeth, Jane, Liam, Frances, and Maeve; siblings, Michael (Donna), Dennis, John, Margaret Christie, Philip (Nancy), Joan (Robert) Streicher, Peter (Paulette), Patricia (Glenn) Heidorn, Clare (Mark) Palmer, Kevin (Irene), Kathryn (Jerry) Tuggle, Jean Anderson, Christopher (Sharon), and Anelle (Craig) Godwin; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by a sister, Carey; sister-in-law, Kathleen; and a brother-in-law, William. Visitation will be held from 4-8PM Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St. (Route 83), Antioch. Funeral Services will be held at 9:15AM Thursday, October 25, 2018 from Strang Funeral Home to Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 135 S. Milwaukee Ave., Lake Villa, IL. Mass of Christian Burial 10AM. Interment will follow in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, IL.
