Phyllis Hanrahan (Dizzonne) - Class Of 1964

Phyllis Hanrahan (Dizzonne)

Phyllis Ann Dizzonne, 69, of Zion, Ill., formerly of Kenosha, Wis., Waukegan and Beach Park, Ill., returned to her home in Heaven following a long battle with Marfan-related complications.

Phyllis was born April 6, 1946, in Kenosha to the late Emery and Ruth Hanrahan. She was attended local schools, graduating from St. Joseph High School. Phyllis was united in marriage to Michael Dizzonne July 15, 1978, St. Mark's Catholic Church in Kenosha. She retired from the VA Hospital as a secretary, supervisor and secretary to the Chief of Nursing after 31 years of service.

Phyllis was a gifted painter and artist, avid reader, animal lover and one who appreciated the arts and her family's musical talents. She loved to sing harmony. She was an enthusiastic pro-life advocate, devout Catholic and prayer warrior. Her spirit was always quick witted, funny and clever, like Carol Burnett. "Phyllis was the strongest person any of us knew and had so much care in her heart for others." She was not only a mother and hero to her own children, but was considered a "surrogate" mother to many throughout her life. Despite her own sufferings and hardships (like putting up with her husband's idiosyncrasies) she was in one word a Saint.

She is survived by her loving husband of over 37 years, Michael; children, Anthony Dizzonne, Kimberly Dizzonne, Angela Dizzonne; grandchildren, Alexis and Anthony, Jr.; siblings Curt Hanrahan (Suzanne), Jeanine (Nick) Mayor, Warren (Maryann) Hanrahan; sister-in-law, Arlene Hanrahan; nephews, Kevin, Craig (Melissa), Sean Hanrahan, Captain Mark (Malori) Mayor, Captain Matthew Mayor, Timothy Hanrahan; nieces, Erin and Brian Udell, and Megan and David Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Christopher R. Dizzonne; one brother, Michael Hanrahan.

Visitation will be at Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Road, Waukegan, Ill., on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. A Mass will follow at Our Lady of Humility, 10655 Wadsworth Road, Beach Park/Zion, Ill. Burial at Ascension Catholic Cemetery.
