John G. Vranak, age 60, of Menomonie, WI died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, March 14, 2006.

He was born July 11, 1945 in Kenosha, WI to John B. and Carmella (Kagliotti) Vranak. John was raised in Kenosha, attended St. Catherine's grade school and graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1963 to 1966 in Viet Nam and was honorably discharged.

John began his career at Stout as a student in 1967 where he earned his bachelors and masters degrees in Industrial Education in 1971 and 1972. Upon graduation, he took a teaching position at Arrowhead High School in Hartland, WI where he remained for seven years before returning to Stout in 1979 to teach in the Graphic Communications Department. He continued his education by receiving his Doctorate in Education at the University of Minnesota in 1991. John was director of the Product Development concentration in Industrial Technology and did much to modernize the curriculum and make it what it is today. He retired from Stout in June 2005.

In addition to his teaching, John enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, fishing, riding motorcycle, and playing guitar. He also enjoyed tinkering and working with his hands. and he loved cooking and passed that skill on to many people.

John is survived by:
His wife, Lena of Menomonie
His two sons,
Nick (Gloria) Vranak and their children, Melissa and Amanda of Middleton
Jeff (Kristine) Vranak and their son, Anthony of Waukesha
A sister, Nancy Vranak of Kenosha
His special dogs, Bella and Sophena
And other relatives and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Christopher Vranak.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, March 18, 2006 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Menomonie, with Rev. Tom Krieg officiating. Family and friends are welcome at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 PM. There will also be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
