Tom moved to San Francisco after the army in 1968. He worked for United Airlines for several years before he found and pursued his passion: sailing, crewing, captaining and repairing all things nautical. After many years in Sausalito he broadened his skills applying them to building homes in the Sierras and the north San Francisco Bay. Despite his terse exterior, Tom developed deep and lasting relations with many friends, even helping raise the son of his business / sailing partner from the age of 8 or 9. He and his partner Nancy cared for each other until the end of his battle with cancer. Tom charted his own course. He led an exotic, adventurous life with a no nonsense manner. He was both extremely individualistic and the most reliable of friends. Well done!

From Bill Antaramian (7/26/2018):

After years of trying to track down my good friend Tom, I came across your info that he has passed away. A very sad day for me, indeed. I joined Tom in San Francisco in the summer of 1968 to enjoy the scene on Haight Street and the Fillmore Auditorium, a truly exceptional experience on many levels. He had the greatest laugh, a bursting of life energy.  I had to leave for Wisconsin at the end of the summer and we had a long hug at the airport, my knowing that a special chapter in my life was at an end. Love you, man, to the core.
